Eight horses have nominated to contest the running of the $12,900 Far West Farmers Penong Cup run over 1600 meters at Penong on Saturday.

Port Lincoln trainer Mick White has two runners engaged - Ceduna Cup placegetter Crazy Culprit and recent Port Lincoln winner Art Music as he looks to upset the class runner It's Humphrey.

Crazy Culprit had a tough run in the Lock Cup recently before dropping out to finish last, it was a rare poor performance and you can expect him to bounce back.

Art Music has been racing well at Port Lincoln and if he can reproduce that form on the dirt he can be competitive.

The Ceduna trained It's Humphrey knows his way around the spacious Penong track having had three starts in the Penong Cup for a stirring victory over Revengeful in 2018 before finishing runner-up in both editions since behind Mr Jazz Man and Abbi Fede last year.

Experienced trainer Trevor 'Bushy' Trenowden will no doubt have the chestnut cherry ripe for another tilt at Cup glory over his pet distance come start time.

Trenowden could also saddle-up speedy mare Bottle and Bird who will be having her first attempt at the mile trip.

Other nominations are Ceduna Cup winner Givepeace A Chance, Onemore Prince, Slippery Journey and maiden galloper Redenzo Bullet.

Final fields and race starting times for the five-event card will be declared on Thursday.
