Cummins pair wins Streaky Bay event

Bowlers from across the region took part in the Elders Real Estate pairs skins event which was hosted at Streaky Bay earlier this month.

The day was made successful by the good number of visitors who joined the locals to compete.

The two greens were filled to capacity as 32 teams took up the challenge to be among the top qualifiers for the skins later in the day.

Three qualifying rounds of 10 ends each determined who would play for the big money, with all teams contesting the skins.

Streaky Bay pair Darren Walker and Darryl Johnson finished in first and would square-off against Grant and Chris Hayman of Cummins for $120 an end, while third-placed Cliff and Pam Edmunds from Streaky Bay were facing Ceduna's Trystan Zippel and Richard Culjak, who finished fourth, for $80 an end.

After five ends of skins, the Hayman pairing had won $480, Walker and Johnson claimed $120, Zippel and Culjak finished with $240, and Streaky Bay's Edmunds' secured $160.

Other substantial winners were Mark and Nick Wrigley, and the pairing of John Rumbelow and Paul Hollitt - both claiming $150.

All players had the opportunity to win, with the team of Dave Benney and Sue Higgins receiving no money yet getting a red Elders shearers singlet each.

Following presentations, a fish dinner sponsored by Streaky Bay Marine Products was devoured by hungry bowlers.

Organisers would like to thank sponsors Elders Real Estate, Elders Rural and Streaky Bay Marine Products, as well as the numerous club members who helped to organise and cater for the day - including those on the refreshment bar.
