Far West Little Athletics Club athletes performed well as they tested themselves against the region's best in Port Lincoln last weekend.
A group of 13 took part in the 2020 Little Athletics Country Championships at the Ravendale Sporting Complex, with Far West competing against teams from Port Lincoln, Whyalla and Port Augusta.
A number of Far West athletes recorded personal best results in a variety of events, while seven went home with a medal.
Far West Little Athletics president Darren Bennett said it was a successful weekend for the club.
"We had seven medalists and quite a few recorded personal bests in multiple events, so it was pretty successful from the Far West centre," he said.
"It went well for such a small team to go down [to Port Lincoln]."
More than 80 athletes competed in the two-day event which had a focus on friendly competition, good sportsmanship, fun and achieving personal bests.
Mr Bennett said those who participated benefitted from the experience on and off the track, and encouraged more to take part next year.
"It allowed them to compete on the next level and be challenged by more kids and they could build good relationships and make new friends out of the event - it was a good opportunity to improve their ability and have fun along the way," he said.
"We are proud of the kids who went down there and congratulations to all on their efforts.
"I am encouraging our centre to send more kids to these events next season as it is beneficial to their development in the sport."
The carnival marked the end of the Far West Little Athletics season, with the wind-up and annual general meeting to take place on Tuesday, March 10 to commence planning for next season.
