Far West ends Henderson Shield campaign with A grade success

Far West ended the Henderson Shield A grade campaign with a four-wicket victory against Kimba at Thevenard on Saturday.

Jarrad Trowbridge helped restrict Kimba to 6/152, with Far West reaching 6/153 in response.

The visitors lost James Cant for only three runs, but Joel Fitzgerald was in the mood as he progressed to 32.

His wicket saw Shannan Larwood and Benjamin Shipard come together for a 75-run stand that took Kimba into triple figures until Larwood had his stumps rattled by Trowbridge for 42 to take the score to 3/124.

Shipard closed in on a half-century, but both he and Jake Stutley were removed on 139, for 47 and five respectively.

Mackenzie Inglis was the last player dismissed as Kimba then got past 150.

Trowbridge finished with 4/26 from his 10 overs.

Far West openers Chris Williams and Jamie Bennett settled well as they put on a 45-run partnership.

Bennett's stumps were knocked over for 23 and four runs later it was Williams' turn for 18, while Josh Threadgold could only add three runs.

The hosts needed to steady and Bredon Smart helped stem the tide.

Far West lost Blake Kenny, retired hurt for five, but Smart had support from Trowbridge, 12, and Charlie Williams, 10, as he pushed on.

Lachlan Wilkins reached 16 as he and Smart added 40 runs, while Riley Prince was not out on five and Smart finished with an unbeaten 46.

Larwood's 10 overs yielded a miserly 3/9 and Nick Pengelly picked up 2/22.

B grade

Kimba cruised to a seven-wicket win against Far West at Ceduna.

The hosts were all out for just 92, with Kimba making 3/96 for a first win this season.

Far West was reduced to 3/32, with Matthew Degner showing some resistance in grabbing 14 runs.

Joseph Williams and Craig Johnson, 18 runs, pushed the home side past 50 with a 35-run partnership, but both were to fall in quick succession and the wickets tumbled.

Williams was the top scorer with 28 as Far West lost 7/25, with Andrew Major taking four wickets.

Hayden Whitwell's 41 runs at the top of the order led Kimba to victory.

After the wicket of Brad Woolford for 17, Whitwell and Thomas Klingberg, 22 not out, put Kimba in sight of the target.

Two Johnson wickets came too late for Far West as Kimba triumphed.

Horgan Shield

Tait Johnson's half-century led Far West to a Horgan Shield success by 38 runs against Kimba at Streaky Bay.

Far West was all out for 160, with Kimba falling to 10/122 in response.

Zac Watson hit three boundaries before he was removed for 13 and quick wickets left the home side at 4/46.

As Far West continued to lose wickets, Johnson was unshakable.

He had help in the form of Wally Parkyn's 13 runs, as Johnson finishing the innings not out on 53.

Mac Seal picked up 3/30 for Kimba.

The run chase was led by Jack Lienert's 36, while opener Bryce Cant grabbed 17 runs and Joey Lienert chipped in with 23.

However, Kimba could not build partnerships in the middle order and the Far West total proved too much.

Brody Skinner was the pick of the bowlers with 3/9.
