Eyre Highway will remain closed indefinitely due to the bushfires in Western Australia.

The highway was closed on January 2 at the WA/SA border due to the continuing bushfire situation and WA's Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised it remains so for all incoming west-bound traffic.

South Australian Police are urging motorists to consider alternate travel plans and to not ignore the road closure signs.

They are also asking that motorists stay alert when driving in smoke-affected areas and to watch for emergency personnel.

The closure left motorists and truck drivers stranded on either side of the border.

In Western Australia, travellers stuck on Eyre Highway at Border Village, Eucla, Mundrabilla, Madura, Cocklebiddy and Caiguna were moved in a convoy through to Esperance on Monday, with the highway then closed again.
