Not to be for local hopes in the Melbourne Cup

It wasn't to be for Kerrin McEvoy, for Streaky Bay or Ceduna on this occasion, but Melbourne Cup day was still a memorable day.

The race that stops a nation saw a thrilling finish and patrons were glued to television screens across the region.

For Streaky Bay they had two hopes - the three-time Melbourne Cup winner aiming for a fourth crown, on Finche, and Hunting Horn from barrier 11 to bring $50,000 to the community.

Ceduna hoped to break the barrier 18 jinx with The Chosen One - the name was apt - for the Ceduna Hospital and Village Auxiliary, but it did not happen.

While the result did not go the way locals wanted, they enjoyed the day and were watching in places such as the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel and Streaky Bay Hotel cheering on their favourites.
