Staff at Ceduna Hospital have organised a bake sale to help fellow staff member Kyla Kaehne after the premature birth of her daughter.
Ms Kaehne has been in Adelaide for the past five weeks after Mishka was born at 33 weeks and her partner Toby Walker only just returned to Ceduna and to work last week.
The bake sale will be hosted on Friday, September 13 in the front foyer of Ceduna Hospital between 10am and 2pm.
All proceeds will go to the couple.
Emma Collins helped put together the sale with Karen Taylor and said they had full support of the hospital team.
"Kyla and her partner are young, in their mid 20s, and not in the most amazing financial position - she has already spent five weeks in Adelaide and her partner only just came home," she said.
"The burden it puts on people, not getting to work and having to go to the city, prompted us to do something.
"Lots of people at the hospital care about her and thought we could do something."
She said they hoped to raise funds to enable the young family to get through a difficult period, and also raise awareness about the difficulties faced from a premature birth.
"It's not only the implications it has on the baby but all those around them," Ms Collins said.
She said about 10 people from the hospital had already put their hand up to bake something for the sale, but anybody else who wanted to get involved could do so.
