Travellers on Eyre Highway will not be able to stop at Poochera for fuel after the recent closure of the Poochera Roadhouse.
The roadhouse closed earlier this month and the doors are shut indefinitely.
Those requiring fuel are advised to fill up at towns such as Ceduna, Wirrulla, Wudinna or Streaky Bay.
Jeff Brown of the Poochera Hotel said the hotel had now taken on the Community Postal Agent role to help people with their mail.
He said the roadhouse closure was a blow for the town.
"We have taken on the CPA role to help people get their mail, it is probably costing us at the moment but we did it to help the community out," he said.
"The big problem is people are not stopping in the town now, and we don't know how long it will be for.
"I think it affects older residents who may not want to travel to Streaky or Wudinna to get fuel."
He said he hoped the roadhouse could be taken over and reopened in the near future.
