Graduation a thrill for Jayden

Ceduna's Jayden Paues recently enjoyed a special day as he graduated in podiatry from the University of South Australia.

The former Ceduna Area School student, who graduated from high school in 2012, received his certificate last month after a four-year course.

Mr Paues said he enjoyed his time studying, but was happy to now be working after getting a job at Mount Gambier Hospital as a podiatrist.

"It was a challenging course and was hard at the time, and I am happy to have completed it and be done," he said.

"Working at the hospital has been a good first job for me out of uni, I work full-time and it has been a good experience."

Mr Paues said the role was wide-ranging and involved wound care and treating sports injuries, plus more.

Mother Cheryl Paues said she was proud to see her son on stage to receive his certificate.

"It was awesome, especially coming from a small town and achieving something like this, it was great for him," she said.

"It was a struggle for him being away from home, but I knew he would get there as he doesn't give up."

While happy at Mount Gambier, Mr Paues said he could see himself closer to home in the future.

"I am thinking that one day I would want to return to Eyre Peninsula to work, however I am happy where I am for now."
