Simon Webb on fire as Wirrulla grabs first win of the season

Simon Webb has helped Wirrulla get off the mark for the 2019 Mid West A grade football season after a dominant display against Elliston on Saturday.

The Bombers led at every change and pulled clear in the final quarter to win by 68 points with a 13-22 (100) to 5-2 (32) result.

Webb was unstoppable in front of goal as he bagged eight - the only Wirrulla player to kick more than one goal - while Glen Tonkin kicked three for the Roosters.

Wirrulla was in command from the outset to lead by 12 points at quarter-time, yet the margin would have been greater if not for seven behinds from nine scoring shots.

The accuracy started to improve for the visitors in the second quarter which extended the lead to 27 points by the main break.

After a tight third quarter the lead remained at 27 heading into the final term, where Wirrulla landed blow after blow to secure a first victory of the season.

With Webb leading the way the Bombers kicked seven goals to Elliston's one in the fourth quarter.

Wirrulla is now one of four teams on two points after three matches, with West Coast the only side on maximum points.

The Hawks enjoyed another big win after downing Western Districts by 85 points in a 17-21 (123) to 6-2 (38) result.

West Coast reached triple figures for the third time in 2019 and looked up for the task from the opening siren, taking a 29-point lead into the first change.

Having kicked five goals in the first term the Hawks went one better after the break, although the Tigers showed resistance with four goals of their own.

Western Districts could only add one goal after half-time as the Hawks booted three in each quarter, with only inaccurate kicking in the forward 50 keeping the margin down.

Cameron Montgomerie added another five-goal haul to his name and had help from Mark Dolling and Braden Holmes with four apiece.

Andrew Miller kicked two goals for the Tigers.

Central Eyre sits on four points after thrashing Wudinna United by 93 points.

The Bulldogs never looked threatened as it ended 14-22 (106) to 2-1 (13), with Wudinna failing to kick a goal until the final term.

Four Central Eyre players - Clint Winter, Tyler Chapman, Corey Waters and Tasman Fitzgerald - led the scoring with two goals apiece, with Heath Zwar and Riley Martin on target for the Magpies.

The home team underlined their dominance in the opening term by racing out to a 30-point lead and after kicking five goals in the second term to no score the margin was extended to 64.

As in other matches the behinds began to stack up, yet it mattered little as the Bulldogs enjoyed a healthy lead.

It continued to build as the match progressed, despite the Magpies booting their only two goals of the match in the fourth quarter.

B grade

Troy Olsen starred as Wirrulla defeated Elliston 16-8 (104) to 6-5 (41).

Olsen kicked seven goals in Wirrulla's 63-point win, which came about thanks to a strong second half.

The Bombers led by 22 points at the first break, although Elliston reduced the deficit to 16 at half-time.

The home side would kick just two more goals in the match as Wirrulla surged ahead, including a seven-goal final quarter.

Central Eyre was too strong in defeating Wudinna United by 47 points.

A powerful first half led to a 9-16 (70) to 3-5 (23) result.

The Bulldogs looked good from the start yet failed to capitalise on their dominance with only one goal in eight scoring shots in the opening term.

Nonetheless, Central Eyre would find the rhythm and also restricted Wudinna to a solitary major in the opening three terms to end the match as a contest.

Dwayne Nottle kicked three goals for the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, West Coast defeated Western Districts via a forfeit.
