Jan Kenny and Jenny McEvoy took the honours as the Streaky Bay Women’s Bowling Club hosted a championship pairs event on February 7.
A total of 22 players took part in the event.
The competition was 2x2x2x2 pairs, playing 15 ends and then 18 ends for the semi-finals and the final, in a knockout format.
The teams of Raylene Giles and Karen Trezona, Gaye Oswald and Betty Kammerman, Kenny and Jenny McEvoy, Sue Rumbelow and Kerry Johnson, and Josie Williams and Lisa McEvoy had a bye in the first round.
Heather Georgiou and Kay Amey defeated Tina Smith and Chris Noonan 16-8, while Dora Murray and Sue Montgomerie downed Robyn Swanson and Marlene Brown 19-9 and Denise Stephens and Lorraine French got the better of Pam Edmunds and Janine Brown 16-11.
In the second round, Giles and Trezona advanced 15-11 against Kammerman and Oswald, Kenny and Jenny McEvoy had too much for Murray and Montgomerie in a 22-11 result, while Williams and Lisa McEvoy defeated Rumbelow and Johnson 16-11 and Georgiou and Amey beat Stephens and French 20-6.
Kenny and Jenny McEvoy reached the final with an 18-11 victory against Giles and Trezona, with Williams and Lisa McEvoy winning the other semi-final 26-12 against Georgiou and Amey.
The final two days later pitted Kenny and Jenny McEvoy against Williams and Lisa McEvoy, in a battle between two experienced teams.
Great bowls were played by both teams, each applying pressure to their opponent which made for a thrilling game.
Kenny and Jenny McEvoy were too strong for Williams and Lisa McEvoy, winning 20-13.
