Fundraiser established to help family devastated by house fire

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist a family which lost everything in a house fire at Bookabie earlier this month.

Country Fire Service crews were called to the Eyre Highway property in the early hours of Friday, February 1 and upon arrival found the house engulfed in flames.

The family of six were away at the time, either travelling or working, and by the time any family members returned it was too late to save anything.

“When I got the call I couldn’t believe it, and when I saw it for myself I just broke down,” house owner Soraya Scott said.

“We lived there for more than 10 years and everything is gone.

“We are grateful for the community support, for the donations and everything that has been done to help us out.”

The family is now staying with relatives at Wudinna.

The damage bill is estimated at $200,000.

Kahlia Gibson launched the fundraiser and said given all family members were away, the only belongings they have left are what each had taken before leaving home.

“All proceeds will go directly to the family to purchase essentials, such as replacement of clothing, sheets, towels, baby crib, fridge and other house hold furniture,” Ms Gibson wrote on the fundraiser page.

“Anyone who knows this beautiful family knows that they are kindhearted people who would give the shirts off their back to help others in need.

“So please help them get back onto their feet.”
