The working week is now over, so it is the perfect time to flip through the pages of yesteryear.

This week’s West Coast Sentinel flashback is focusing on the February 8, 2001 edition of the newspaper.

Who can you spot in this edition?

Making news this week was the start of the 2001 school year, with new students and staff members welcomed across the region, including at Crossways Lutheran School, Ceduna Area School, Wudinna Area School and Port Kenny Primary School.

Away from the schoolyard, there was a new police officer at Wirrulla, while the first baby of the year at Wudinna Hospital was welcomed.

There was tragedy in the sporting world as champion Australian marathon runner Bryan Smith died during the Big Red Sky TransAustralia Foot Race outside of Penong.

Meanwhile, in tennis action, the Murat Bay Tennis Association defeated the Streaky Bay/Wirrulla Tennis Association in the annual clash.
