Bowlers celebrate Australia Day | PHOTOS

Australia Day was the theme as the Ceduna Bowling Club hosted a triples event which was won by Michael Knowles, Di Williams and Gary Ferguson.

Organisers created an Australian atmosphere for the event which was hosted on Saturday, January 26.

Australian music spread across the rinks all day, there were lamingtons and meat pies to enjoy during the break, an Australia Day quiz and a game of Two Up took place, and the day came to a close with a barbecue tea.

The perfect number of 42 players occupied all rinks of the A green in front of the clubhouse, near the bar.

Teams of three were drawn to make them as even in ability as possible, giving each team a chance to share in the $1000 prizemoney which saw rewards going from first to seventh.

It was a true bowls community event with pennants, social and night bowlers all represented and the wholehearted support of many who contributed food, sponsorship, music and a hand in the kitchen resulted in a memorable day – some want it to be held at least twice a year.

Most teams won at least one of the three games played, but it was the team of Knowles, Williams and Ferguson which triumphed.

Mick Stewart, in his retro surfie outfit complete with thongs and zinc cream, won the prize for best dressed.
