He did it again! Kerrin McEvoy produced in a superb ride on Tuesday to win his third Melbourne Cup, putting himself in the elite list of jockeys in the ‘race that stops a nation’.
The Streaky Bay champion followed up his wins in 2000 and 2016 when he stormed home with Cross Counter to take the victory.
Raised in a family entrenched with racing, McEvoy rose from young prodigy winning races at Streaky Bay and elsewhere on Eyre Peninsula to conquering the nation.
At 20, McEvoy was the second-youngest Melbourne Cup winning jockey when he led Brew over the line in 2000, and now he is a veteran with a glittering career under his belt which has included victories in some of Australia’s most iconic races.
