The Haslam community celebrated the official opening of the upgraded Doc Woods Reserve on Wednesday.
About 50 people were in attendance as the upgraded reserve was opened by Member for Flinders Peter Treloar.
The Streaky Bay District Council hosted a free barbecue and children enjoyed the new playground equipment installed as part of the upgrade.
Other work included renewal and delineation of pathways and replanting of the reserve with native plants, installing a footbridge and a fence around the recreation area, and a welcome sign.
A state government grant of $41,650 through the Open Spaces and Places for People program matched the council’s contribution for the upgrades.
Joyce Woods said she was happy with the upgrades of the reserve which bears her husband’s name.
“The upgrades are very good, the reserve looks good and it will give plenty of use for the community,” she said.
