The Heysen Comets got one over the South Eastern Spartans to win the SA Super League grand final.

The Spartans had triumphed in both meetings this season, including in the semi final which forced the Comets into the preliminary final, however they hit back with a 60-54 victory.

The Spartans went into the decider with an unchanged line-up from that semi final encounter, while the Comets team included Streaky Bay’s Damon Edmunds in the triples.

Ashley Halls recorded a 22-13 victory in the singles for the Comets, including a pivotal super end on his final end as he scored two shots which doubled to four and placed the Comets in a strong position.

It was a dramatic finish in the pairs, highlighted by the final end where the shot changed several times including a mixture of great draw bowls, drives and conversion shots.

The Spartans, helped by a super end, claimed a 28-14 victory which left the fate of the competition in the hands of the triples.

The Comets held a one-shot lead on the overall scoreboard with two ends remaining.

Comets’ player Josh Chopin drew two shots on the penultimate end and with a further shot added by Scott Thulborn the Comets took three shots and headed into the last with a 58-54 lead.

The Spartans used a super end to send the game into extra ends.

The Comets held their nerve to record a 24-13 triples win and a six-shot overall triumph.

Comets coach Scott Hocking was ecstatic with his team’s effort throughout the season and congratulated coach Deanna Amos and her Spartans outfit on a successful season as well.
