Centacare Ceduna hosted a soup kitchen stall on Wednesday to help raise awareness surrounding homelessness during Homelessness Week.
The soup stall outside the Ceduna Memorial Hall proved to be a success, with a number of community members enjoying the wide variety of free soup on offer.
Centacare’s assistant manager Rebecca Tuohy said the aim of the event was to get people aware about the plight that some people face.
“This is about creating awareness around homelessness issue,” she said.
“The theme for this year is ‘Everybody’s Home’ and we do our best to raise awareness on the subject.
“The soup kitchen has always been a big hit and we also provide information for people about homelessness in Australia.”
She said a lack of housing was the main issue in the Ceduna region.
“The biggest issue here is the lack of housing in Ceduna, finding a rental property is hard and the amount of social housing is getting smaller as old houses are not being replaced.”
Centacare had also planned to host a fun run earlier in the week, but it was cancelled due to the weather conditions.
