The Heysen Comets opened the SA Super League bowls season last weekend with a victory.

The team, which includes Streaky Bay’s Damon Edmunds, took on Northern Knights in Adelaide as they secured a 58-51 victory.

After Ben Harris of Cleve and James Gregory prevailed in the pairs discipline in a close 17-15 success, Ashley Halls recorded a comeback 26-18 singles victory to put the Comets in command for an overall victory.

Edmunds competed in the triples alongside John Chopin and Darren Niblett and the match ended in another close encounter, which was the theme of the opening round.

The teams could not be split heading into the last end, before the Northern Knights claimed an 18-15 victory.

Despite the defeat, the margin proved small enough for the Comets to secure an overall win to start the campaign.
