Harrison Petty is set to make his AFL debut this weekend for the Melbourne Demons.

The Demons take on St Kilda at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, with the Wudinna-born defender included in the squad just two weeks after coach Simon Goodwin described him as an “exciting young player”.

Petty was pick number 37 in last year’s AFL draft and has been one of the standout performers for the Demons’ VFL side so far this season.

That led to Goodwin recently indicating the 197 centimetre defender could soon make his AFL debut.

Petty’s parents Simon and Karen are set to make the trek from Wudinna to Melbourne to watch their son in action.

Petty will become the 1339th player to represent the Demons in VFL/AFL action.
