Port Adelaide Cup
Far West and Mid West under 15 footballers travelled to Port Lincoln to compete in the Port Adelaide Cup on Sunday.
Far West started the carnival against Eastern Eyre on Sunday morning with both teams displaying quick passages of play up the wings.
Eastern Eyre started strongly with a three-goal half while Far West kicked one to trail by 11 points.
Dion Paues was doing a great job in ruck and had effective disposals through the centre while Bayln Thompson and Tyreece Dunn helped to drive Far West’s attack.
However Eastern Eyre continued to find space with Riley Evans proving dangerous and Bailey Francis constantly active in the contests.
Eastern Eyre could have extended their lead but good defensive pressure by Far West kept them to two goals from eight scoring shots to win 5.6 (36) to 3.2 (20).
Mid West took on an impressive Lincoln City team, who used effective disposals and created space to set up several inside 50s.
Led by Jaiden Jude and Wilson McShane in the midfield, City controlled passages of play and hit targets up forward including Dannen Blacker and Toby Casanova to kick five goals to none in the first half.
For Mid West, Bailey Hawes pursued the ball at any opportunity and was not afraid to lay the tackle while Mackenzie Best was also working hard in the centre.
Mid West scored their only goal of the game through Phoenix Foster but Lincoln City were too strong, going down 1.3 (9) to 7.6 (48).
This set up Mid West against Far West later in the afternoon.
Far West got into attack early and scored a goal through Cruz Polkinghorne.
Jairone Miller and Tyson Edwards were speed machines through the midfield and Thompson was effective with disposals as Far West set up more goal opportunities.
Mid West managed to set opportunities up but Far West’s defence kept them to five behinds, while Far West kicked four goals to lead by 22 points at half time.
Paues continued to shine for Far West in the centre with his ruck work and marking ability.
Goals to Thompson, Dunn, Dylan Eramiha, Brad Beattie and another from Polkinghorne set up Far West for the win.
Mid West got to end the game positively with two goals each to Harvey Fleming and Jacob Baldock.
Far West ran out winners 9.4 (58) to 4.7 (31). Lincoln City would win the 2018 Port Adelaide Cup with a one goal win against Lincoln Districts in the final.
Paues was best for Far West with Hawes the best for Mid West. Far West’s Paues, Thompson, Polkinghorne, Miller and Dunn were named in the Eyre Peninsula under 15 squad, as was Mid West’s Baldock, Best and Hawes.
