The election will be for eight elected members and a mayor.
As most will probably know, I will not be a candidate.
This decision is not health related but simply that it is time for a fresh approach after about 15 years in Local Government.
This has been both enjoyable and a privilege but the time has come.
I encourage community minded people to consider nominating for a role in council.
It would be really good to see some fresh individuals become involved to boost what has been a really good group.
I urge those few who stand on the sidelines and offer criticisms and general advice to become involved rather than contributing little or nothing to our community.
It is very simple to throw rocks but negativity is rarely helpful to either the individual or to the common good.
The really good thing about the operations of council, and particularly elected members, has been the lack of self interest and the sensible nature of decisions made within the chamber.
We have been very well served by many different councilors over past years.
Being a representative involves a lot of hard work and tough decisions at times but truly is the best way to contribute to the well being of our lovely town.
It would be really good to see representation from our Aboriginal community members and to see more women involved in Local Government.
I strongly urge your consideration of nominating to contribute to our community.
