The Streaky Bay Cup is this Saturday and an excellent day of racing awaits the expected big crowd set to converge on Streaky Bay.
These predictions were made before the final field and jockeys were known.
Only two horses had nominated at the time of writing for this race over 1000 metres and a field of at least four would be needed for this race to go ahead.
There is plenty of pace in this 1200m race, with Murray Bridge visitor Little Jay Jay the best performed runner.
Little Jay Jay won at Kangaroo Island recently and looks well placed to win but the final 50m might be the only problem as he is yet to win over this distance.
Rocky Valley could be the value runner.
This race, over 1800m, looks to be perfect for Hand to Hand, who is a consistent and promising stayer and I expect him to win well.
Heza Hussler looms as the danger, after fighting on very well behind Staghorn at Port Lincoln on cup day.
Ticket to Paris is looking good for this 1400m race. He has been placed at the track and was super impressive in beating a big field to win at Port Lincoln recently.
The Angela Forster stable is flying and so is this mare.
Turfonic is an interesting runner, having won at his first South Australian start at Balaklava in February, while Old Farm Road might sneak a place at good odds.
There looks to be only a small field but there are three quality runners for this 1000m event – The Headliner, Baiton and Cosmic Kheleyf.
The Headliner has won here and had a good run in a cracking field at Port Lincoln recently where he was caught wide yet fought on.
He does seem to attract bad luck in his races but if things go his way he will win.
Baiton is a nine-year-old but no one has told him and he raced well in a recent event at Kangaroo Island.
Streaky Bay Cup
A great field is expected for the feature race over 1800m, with $12,000 in prize money up for grabs.
A lot of these horses have raced together in the Port Lincoln Cup and if you use the cup as a guide, and I believe you should, then Copper Coast Raida and Rooboy are the main chances.
Copper Coast Raida flew home from last to finish fourth in the Port Lincoln Cup and looks to be the one to beat at Streaky Bay.
He probably cannot afford to be near last place in this race, but his finish is powerful.
Rooboy gave a huge run recently where he led along with Savenero and sprinted hard at the 600m mark and only tired in the final 150m.
He might try for a commanding lead in this race.
Zipaland and Lotion are the other chances but cases can be made for at least three more runners in the field.
