850 EP homes to get solar panels

Solar panels and batteries will be installed on 850 Eyre Peninsula Housing Trust properties as part of the state government’s ‘virtual power plant’ scheme to reduce household electricity bills.

Under the ‘Tesla Virtual Power Plant’ scheme 50,000 South Australian homes will receive home solar panels and battery systems.

The general public is also able to sign up for the program, with almost 30,000 people in South Australia already signing up.

About 300 people from the Eyre Peninsula have signed up so far.

Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the scheme would reduce electricity prices for homes taking part in the scheme by 30 per cent.

Energy captured by the solar panels will be sold to residents at a reduced rate, reducing their power bill.
