GALLERY | Thevenard comfortably advances

Thevenard advanced in the Far West netball finals series following a 77-10 victory over Koonibba on Saturday.

Both teams came out strong in windy conditions yet Thevenard got a handle on the conditions to take the lead in the first quarter following lots of turnovers and contested play.

With several turnovers from both teams throughout, the final score did not reflect the game’s physical, well-contested nature.

Koonibba fought hard but its season is over as Thevenard proved just too strong.

Amy Faklis and Kadisha O’Loughlin were the standouts.

The second week of the finals sees Ceduna and Western United meet at the Far West Aboriginal Sporting Complex.

Ceduna 2 got the better of Ceduna 1 in the B grade, winning 28-24 in a close match.

Both teams worked hard to feed into their goalies with short low passes at the start due to the weather.

Every position was evenly matched and all players on both sides throughout the clash did their utmost to win their position.

The biggest margin was four and several times the teams could not be separated as the defensive work was tight throughout the court.

Georgia Lambeff and Teigan Drew impressed.

Western United faces Thevenard this weekend.

Thevenard 1 edged past Ceduna 2 by only four goals as it ended 45-41 in the C grade’s opening finals match.

It was a close game as the wind made it difficult for both teams, with Ceduna leading at half-time, however Thevenard recovered in the third to go in front and while Ceduna reduced the deficit in the final term the Magpies held on to advance.

Hayley Jeffs and Celeste Hubert led the way.

Western United faces Ceduna 1 this weekend.

Koonibba got the better of Thevenard 1 with a 42-28 success in the D grade final.

The Roosters stayed consistent with their goals, while Thevenard’s defence pushed hard to receive many intercepts.

Koonibba made a number of half-time changes which did unsettle the team somewhat yet the score steadily ticked over, while Thevenard kept fighting and capitalised on turnovers.

Rubi Riddle and Tineshia Wilson were the best players.

Thevenard 2 will play Western United this weekend.

Thevenard won 32-27 against Ceduna 1 in the Junior A match, where the teams went goal-for-goal early on before the Magpies took command of the contest.

That lead proved decisive as Ceduna came out strong in the final quarter only for the Magpies to hold on.

Jallina Matthews-Bennett and Zali Chandler were the standout players on the day.

Western United faces Ceduna 2 this Saturday.

Koonibba edged past Western United in the Junior B match, winning 19-17.

The first half proved an even contest in the windy conditions and the teams were locked at 10-10 going into half-time.

The lead changed numerous times in the third quarter yet it was Koonibba who took the lead at three-quarter-time and maintained that advantage in the final term.

Jasmine Hoffrichter and Lynacia Dudley played well.

Thevenard 2 meets Thevenard 1 in a derby this Saturday.
