Australia was defeated in the final of the Netball World Youth Cup against New Zealand overnight.
The team led by Wudinna’s Hannah Petty fell to a heartbreaking 60-57 defeat in Botswana.
Australia led 17-14 at quarter-time and 28-27 at half-time, however New Zealand turned the match around in the third quarter.
The Silver Ferns took a 45-41 lead into the final quarter and while Australia applied pressure, they could not get over the line to lose by just three goals.
Victory gave New Zealand back-to-back world crowns at Under 21 level.
New Zealand has won three of the last four tournaments, with Australia breaking the pattern in 2009.
There was some consolation for Australia as Jamie-Lee Price was named Player of the Tournament.
