I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all the readers of the West Coast Sentinel.
My name is Barry Luke and I am currently the Anglican Priest of St Michaels and All Angels Church at Ceduna and will conduct church services at Penong and Smoky Bay.
My wife Avril and I moved to Ceduna in the middle of October, from Cummins, where I was the Anglican priest for the district.
We have received a very warm welcome from all we have met.
We look forward to meeting more of you as we move throughout the communities.
Avril and I raised our three children in Roxby Downs and we have one grandchild.
After moving to Roxby Downs in 1988, I was one of the first two people to pack the uranium oxide at the Olympic Dam Mine.
For the last four years at Olympic Dam I was the mine site industrial chaplain. We left there in early 2016.
Family is quite important for us.
Since moving to Ceduna we have been received warmly into the ‘family’ here.
Since leaving Roxby Downs, after living there for more than 27 years, we have fallen in love with the West Coast.
All of you people are just so friendly, welcoming and ready for a chat, which is great for me as I am always up for a chat and even a good joke!
We have also recently purchased a four-wheel-drive so have been exploring the magnificent scenery this beautiful part of God’s country has to offer.
To finish with I follow Sturt and like all Ford cars.
I quite like the new Mustang.
I also enjoy walking with Avril and pottering around in my shed.
As I am a carpenter I enjoy getting back and using my skills I have learnt over the years.
I do not have an AFL team but if you see me out and about I am happy for you to chat to me about your AFL team and why I could support your team.
So until next time, God bless you all.
Reverend Barry Luke
