A Port Lincoln team captained by Gerardo Perone was victorious in the Oysterfest Classic held over the recent long weekend.
The event, hosted by the Ceduna and Districts Bowling Club, made a return for the 15th staging of the tournament after last year’s event was cancelled due to the extreme weather conditions and power outage that was experienced at the time it was to take place.
The event was held over two days and attracted 72 bowlers from across the state, stretching from Bordertown, Yorke Peninsula, Port Lincoln, Minnipa, Moonta, Streaky Bay, Wirrulla and Ceduna.
Each team played a total of eight games in a combination of fours and pairs.
At the conclusion of some hard fought games which saw fine bowling on show, it was the Port Lincoln team consisting of Gerardo Perone, Joe Perone, Don Hassell and Sime Perin who took home the crown.
They lost only one game during the weekend and won by 11 points ahead of the Yorke Peninsula team captained by Phil Spiers and also containing Bob Scott, Don Bennett and Steve Jolly.
All visitors were extremely complimentary of the state of the greens and the standard of catering that was on offer, with most expressing a keen desire to return and participate in the 2018 event based on their experience this year.
The Ceduna and Districts Bowling Club thanked it sponsors for their help, consisting of Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel, Ceduna Foodland, Justin Baker of Caskayde Property Services and ANZ Bank.
