Elliston will host a screening of a documentary this weekend about Sea Shepherd’s efforts to protect the Great Australian Bight.
Operation Jeedara shows the voyage of the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin from Melbourne to Head of Bight and features information the area’s marine wildlife and indigenous significance.
It also details how a potential oil spill could affect the environment and how it is important to protect the Great Australian Bight.
Event organiser Anna Taylor said she had kept in contact with some of the crew and an opportunity to show this documentary had recently come up.
She said the event would also incorporate the first event of Unite the Bight, which is a series of work free music film and workshop events.
The documentary will be shown in the Elliston Community Hall at 4pm Sunday, followed by a presentation by Cristel Chambers from the Wilderness Society and a slideshow by local photographer SA Rips.
There will also be a free yoga class at 11am on the Elliston beach front lawns.
