Wirrulla defeats Elliston to win premiership

A grade – Wirrulla def Elliston 65-31

Wirrulla started hard and fast for the first few passes.

Elliston matched them but very accurate shooting by Hannah Kelsh saw them lead by 13 goals at the first change.

Elliston made several changes at quarter time but to no avail. Wirrulla continued to dominate the game.

Accurate shooting by Hannah Kelsh and excellent centre court play of Renae Olsen saw Wirrulla dominate. Wirrulla increased their lead at half time.

Wirrulla’s defence continued to make turnovers while Elliston had a lot of pressure down the court but made some unforced errors when they had possession did not help. Wirrulla had a handy lead at three quarter time.

Sarah Evans almost stopped Elliston from scoring in the final quarter and her excellent ball skills saw her named best on court as Wirrulla won their fourth premiership in a row.

B grade – Central Eyre def West Coast Hawks 47-41

Centrals came out firing with strong shooting and rebounding. Centrals capitalised on turnovers. Hawks made a small comeback but Centrals finished ahead 15-9.

Hawks made changes which looked to be paying off but midway through the quarter Centrals started getting back on top with accurate shooting, finishing the quarter 27-19.

Hawks’ changes made it harder for Centrals to score. Hawks were closing the gap but were not making the most of opportunities.

Centrals got a few more goals to be 37-31 at the final change. Hawks came out firing. Defenders worked hard at both ends. It was an even last quarter with both teams determined but Central came out victors.

C grade – West Coast Hawks def Wudinna United 40-38

The game started with nervous play and shooting. Wudinna started slow but soon found their rhythm. The first quarter ended close with Wudinna up by one goal.

Wudinna goalies were good in the second quarter with lots of successful long shots even with the strong defence by Hawks. A well fought quarter finishing with Wudinna increasing their lead to three.

Hawks made some changes at half time that worked in their favour. There was tight defence all the way down the court from both sides. Wudinna’s GA Annika Kirvan was shooting beautifully.

Hawks came out firing in the last quarter. Wudinna had amazing passages of play utilising their tall GS.

Hawks were up by three with five minutes to go. A great game to watch with Hawks winning 40 to 38.

D grade – Wudinna United def Central Eyre 39-38

Junior A – Western Districts def West Coast Hawks 42-41

Districts came out strong with pressure the whole way down the court. Hawks fought back in the last five minutes to make the score 13-10, Districts way.

There was lots of loose balls with both teams chasing hard to gain control. Pressure from both teams consistent down the court.

Hawks picked up again in the last 2 minutes. Score Districts 21 to Hawks 16.

Hawks dominated the quarter and played consistent netball while Districts lost momentum. It was a close finish for the quarter Hawks 32 to Districts 30.

Both teams came out determined and strong. Western Districts kept their composure and finished off stronger with a one goal win.
