Hawks add another victory

West Coast continued its unbeaten Mid West football season with a 12-12 (84) to 7-9 (51) victory over Elliston on Saturday.

The match was affected by a strong breeze which saw the match swing throughout the quarters.

West Coast raced to a 28-point lead at quarter-time thanks to five goals, however was kept scoreless in the second term as the Roosters piled on 5-4 to lead by six points at half-time.

The leaders turned it around in the third quarter with 7-8, as Elliston failed to add to its score.

That proved decisive as the Hawks were kept scoreless once more in the fourth quarter yet Elliston could only add 1-5 to fall by 33 points.

West Coast’s Braden Holmes and Elliston player Ben Hurrell each kicked three goals.

The Hawks will finish first, while Elliston has fourth wrapped-up.

Wirrulla won a thriller against bottom team Wudinna on Saturday, but it was not enough to salvage finals hopes.

The wind caused havoc as the match see-sawed, but the Bombers went home with an eight-point triumph as it ended 7-3 (45) to 5-7 (37).

Craig Johnson bagged two for Wirrulla and was matched by Wudinna pair Ryan Lymn and Xavier Smith-Scott.

Wudinna kicked the only goal of the first quarter as the Bombers were kept scoreless, however they turned it around in the second quarter to kick four goals to the Magpies’ one behind.

Wirrulla added a solitary point in the third term as the Magpies put through 2-3 to reduce the deficit to one point.

Three goals to two in the final quarter saw the Bombers home.

Central Eyre, who will finish second, got the better of Western Districts by 58 points.

The Bulldogs recovered from a poor first quarter to win 14-14 (98) to 6-4 (40).

The third-placed Tigers kicked four goals to none to lead by 26 points at quarter-time yet were then scoreless in the second term to trail by 10 points at the main break.

Central Eyre added four goals to one in the third term and finished the match with five further goals in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Chapman led the scoring with five majors

There were B grade successes for West Coast, Wudinna and Central Eyre.
