Streaky Bay is ready to host one of its most popular community events, next week’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Hosted by the Streaky Bay District Council, the morning tea will take place next Thursday from 10am in the Streaky Bay Supper Room, with a gold coin donation entry.
The event is being held in support of the Cancer Council.
The council’s executive assistant Judy Childs said everybody was invited to join in the fun.
“We are asking all community members to come along to the morning tea to enjoy the morning and the scrumptious food,” she said.
“It goes for a couple of hours and it is a good chance to socialise and have a good chat with other people in the community.
“We love seeing the people from Elmhaven home come along, they love the event and we enjoy having them there.”
Ms Childs said it was an important event for an important cause.
“We all know somebody who is or who has been affected by some sort of cancer,” she said.
“With that in mind, we are happy to help an organisation like the Cancer Council.”
Hosting the morning tea has become a tradition at Streaky Bay and Ms Childs said she was looking forward to it.
“In the 17 years I have been at the council we have done it,” she said.
We are asking all community members to come along to the morning tea to enjoy the morning and the scrumptious food.
“However, the morning tea was happening before I got there so it has been going for probably more than two decades.
“It is one of the biggest things we do and a lot of businesses have donated food which is fantastic to see and we really appreciate their help.”
She said their aim each year was to raise at least $1000.
“We are hoping to see about 100 to 150 community members at the morning tea,” she said.
“It can be hard to say how many people will come, last year it was wet and so there was not as many people as we hoped.
“We try to raise $1000 each time, we were a bit short last year but as I say there were not as many there.”
