Eight members of the Far West Camera Club recently travelled to Elliston as part of the Eyre Peninsula Camera Club's annual picnic and exhibition.

Far West was one of seven clubs present for the gathering, alongside Whyalla, Cowell/Cleve, Port Lincoln, Kimba, Elliston and Wudinna.

It was a successful day for Far West with Elaine Rock gaining first place in the Flora section with her entry entitled Growing in the Dunes.

Other members to receive merit certificates were Lynn Kelsh, Liz Davis, Barb Zippel and Lyn Keanelly.

The most successful exhibitor of the weekend was Betty Nottle from the Whyalla club.

Members of the Elliston Club hosting the weekend provided plenty of options for photographic opportunities and a delicious barbecue lunch on the Sunday to farewell everybody until the next gathering.

Before the trip to Elliston, the Far West club had an additional meeting at which Jeffrey Venning from the Whyalla club, and also a South Australia Photographic Federation judge, was a special guest to talk to the members about what judges looked for at exhibitions.

He showed some of his images submitted to various international competitions and asked the group to guess which made the grade, which did not and which had won an award.

Much lively discussion ensued between members but in the end the group got it pretty much spot on.
