Mid West netball started with a bang on Saturday, with varying results in the grades.

Both Western Districts and Elliston won on their travels in A grade action, as the Tigers defeated Wudinna 51-14 and Elliston got the better of Central Eyre 47-28.

It was a different story in the B grade as Wudinna defeated Western Districts 37-31, while Central Eyre downed Elliston 43-29.

In the latter, both teams made a strong start in warm conditions at Kyancutta, with great displays of shooting.

There were some important turnovers made by Elliston, which resulted in a few quick goals and there was great drive down the court and passages of play from both teams, with Elliston taking the lead into the quarter time break.

Central Eyre stepped up its game after the break and played good, hard netball to capitalise on defensive turnovers, while there was strong defence from Elliston all over the court.

Position changes at the long break by Central Eyre ensured it pulled away on the scoreboard, with the team capitalising on loose balls which resulted in a nine-goal lead heading into the final quarter.

Nonetheless, Elliston did not lose its defensive pressure and did have some good passages of play.

The difference during the fourth quarter proved to be Central Eyre’s greater accuracy in front of the net as they pulled away for a 14-goal win.

Lucy Schultz was the Bulldogs best player.
