FORMER Ceduna student Kyla Cassells recently graduated from Melbourne’s La Trobe University as a Doctor of Philosophy.

The former Crossways Lutheran School student received her PhD last December.

She studied Australian History, specifically focusing on the White Australia Policy in the 1920s.

“There’s a lot of work which goes into completing it and when you finally get to the end it’s a big relief and very exciting,” she said.

Ms Cassells studied at Crossways in primary school, before moving to Port Augusta with her family.

She now works in Sydney and said it could be hard to get back to Ceduna.

“I don’t get there as much as I would like to, I do get to South Australia when I can.”

She has fond memories of her time at Crossways.

“It was a very good school and set me up with a bunch of skills, it provided a solid basis for me.”

Ms Cassells said passion for the subject and support of family and friends was vital during more than a decade of university study.
