Big field for Oysterfest Classic

A field of 96 bowlers took to the Ceduna Greens for the 2012 Ceduna Oysterfest Classic, which was held on the Saturday and Sunday of the October long weekend.

Whilst showers on Thursday and Friday dampened the greens it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the bowlers having travelled from Darwin, Broken Hill, Perth, Adelaide, Bordertown, Moonta, Port Lincoln, Lock, Cleve, Port Victoria, Cowell, Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay and Morphett Vale to take part in this prestigious event.

Held in conjunction with the Ceduna Oysterfest, this event has become very popular since its inception and this year’s event again lived up to expectations with greens presented in excellent condition and sumptuous catering all weekend.

After two days of highly competitive bowling a team from Port Lincoln skippered by Larry Vallance took out the major prize.

They bowled exceptionally well and won seven of their eight matches.

Another team from Port Lincoln skippered by A Haines with one Ceduna player was runner up.

Darryl Hage and his team from Kirton Point filled third place.

The winners of each of the Saturday and Sunday competitions, not featuring in the major places, were presented with winning envelopes.

Saturday’s winning team was from Kirton Point with Ian Fulton as skipper and Sunday’s winner was the Fred Gerschwitz team from Kirton Point.

The Ceduna and Districts Bowling Club would like to thank its sponsors for this event; The Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel and A1 Cabins Ceduna.

This carnival continues to excel and once again there were over 100 meals served on each of the three nights.
