Fish and Chips making waves

MOCEAN Café in Streaky Bay continues to receive accolades after winning the SBS Feast Magazine 2012 Food Award in the fish and chips category.

Determined by online reader votes, and judged for all of South Australia, Mocean Café was announced to have the best fish and chips in the state.

Mocean owner Margii Caldwell said they ensure each order of fish and chips served is of the best quality available.

“Consistency is the key, we work really hard to make sure every plate of fish and chips is just as good, if not better, than the one which came before it,” she said.

“We only use fish from Streaky Bay Marine Products and Port Lincoln Fresh Fish, so we have access to the best fish possible.”

This isn’t the only distinction Mocean has received for their fish and chips.

In January the Advertiser did a top ten list of the best fish and chips in South Australia, with Mocean coming in at number five.

But Mocean Café isn’t just known for their fish and chips, a review by Tony Love of the Advertiser in 2009 hightlighted several of their dishes including their saltbush lamb, their surf and turf using kangaroo and their oysters.

Ms Caldwell said a lot of effort is put into all their dishes.

“Hardy Weyrauch works really hard in the kitchen and we like to travel and try new foods and combinations and try to incorporate them into our menu,” she said.

Mocean Café has received many positive reviews, including by contributors to Trip Advisor.

Trip Advisor is a voluntary review system done online where diners give their own reviews, all reviews done by Mocean diners have been over three and a half stars.

With their award win and their ongoing success, Mocean Café has cemented themselves as one of the top restaurants anywhere on the West Coast, and they aim to keep improving.
