Westies finish minor round in style

WESTERN United ended their home and away season in style, defeating Thevenard by 51 points at Thevenard Sports Club on Saturday.

The Tigers wanted to end their season well after their shock 13 point loss to the Blues last week.

Western United started off well, kicking four goals in the first quarter, while Thevenard answered with two of their own.

The Tigers went on full attack in the second quarter, kicking six goals to three to lead by 33 points at half time.

Western United continued this forward pressure in the third quarter, scoring five goals from ten scoring opportunities, while Thevenard tried to keep themselves in the game with four goals from seven opportunities.

This pattern repeated in the final quarter, a relentless attack from the Tigers throughout the game saw them cruise to a comfortable win, 19.14.128 to 12.5.77.

Tyron Scott made his possessions count for the Tigers, while Rowan Scott kicked seven goals, which was enough to finish on top of the FWFL goal kickers list with 45.

Dustin Perry led the way for the Magpies with his possessions and four goals, while Lionel Wilson and Josh Wilkins were also great for Thevenard.

Western United now look towards the finals, and a place in the Grand Final to try and win their first premiership since 2009.

Thevenard end their season without winning a game, and will have one more chance at survival against the Blues when the finals begin.
