Ceduna men’s bowls
On Friday evening a small crowd gathered at the Ceduna Bowling Club to watch the Ceduna Singles Club Championship between Craig Ettridge and Mark Garrick.
Craig played like a champion and won the game 25 shots to Mark’s score of four shots.
The singles plate championship between Denys Richter and Jason Montgomerie was also played on the rink.
Jason was the successful bowler and won the game with the final score being 21-11.
Ceduna women’s bowls
The Ceduna Women’s Club Singles Championship was completed on Friday, November 27 with the final playoff being between Nancy Bubner and Jeanette Bubner
Nancy reached the final by defeating Karen Collins in a very close semi.
Karen got to 20 shots first but couldn’t get the last shot needed.
At 20-all Nancy threw a long end and drew perfectly to win 22-20.
Jeanette defeated Trish Cragan in the other semi.
This match was also very tight with both players bowling good draw and conversion bowls.
For 17 ends scores had remained even, then at 15-all Jeanette took out Trish’s shot bowl for a three-shot break, and followed up with another three to take the match 21-15.
The early rounds of the championship had been played in perfect conditions on Wednesday.
Unfortunately the final was held in very windy conditions.
Jeanette Bubner found her line and length early, and her accurate draw bowls put Nancy under pressure from the start.
The last eight ends of the match were much more evenly contested but time had run out for Nancy with Jeanette winning her second club singles championship.
The plate final was between veterans Win Miller and Elva Dunn.
Win had a close battle with her daughter Yvonne Borlase in one semi winning 18-16, while Elva defeated Jean Greatbatch in the other.
Elva continued her consistent draw bowling into the final by always getting a couple bowls close to the jack.
Despite Win’s best efforts, Elva extended her lead to eventually win 21-13.
