Ceduna men’s bowls
Ceduna and Districts Bowling Club president Spiro Manolakis recently presented a well earned life membership to Barry Trowbridge in the presence of a large number of club members.
Barry joined the club (then known as the Murat Bay Bowling Club) in 1974 when his father-in-law the late Reg Borlase invited him to a visitor’s day.
He quickly became hooked and his involvement with the club began.
He has held positions of club president, vice president, treasurer, tournament committee member, has been a delegate for association and regional meetings and a selector for association and Region 5 teams.
Barry has enjoyed great success in all levels of bowling; winning club championship singles pairs, triples and fours on numerous occasions and has been runner-up in regional champion of champion’s singles and pairs.
He has been an umpire for 20 years and an umpire tutor for six years.
In the early 1990s, Barry was involved in the formation of the night owls bowls competition, which is still enjoyed by many today.
He has represented the club in the country carnival in Adelaide for more than 20 years and also enjoys being a member of the past presidents association, travelling all over Australia to participate in competitions.
Barry was overwhelmed by the presentation of his award and made an emotional response thanking all members of the club and in particular, his wife and family for their support over the years.
Well done Barry – Ceduna and Districts Bowling Club is proud of your achievements.
Ceduna women’s bowls
Bowlers from Ceduna participated in the Region 5 Masters Pairs at Tumby Bay on Friday, January 8.
Claire Trowbridge and Eileen Fitzgerald bowled well all day to achieve four wins: 9-5, 10-4, 8-7, 10-8.
Their last game was very exciting, as a win would give them a chance of taking out the event.
With one end to go, Eileen and Claire were one shot up, but the opposition put three perfect bowls on the jack.
Claire just missed opening up the head with her last bowl.
Eileen made contact with her first but didn’t get a result, but with her last, bowled a sensational just over draw weight bowl which rested for shot and the game.
That meant that there were two teams with four wins, but unfortunately for the Ceduna girls the Cummins pairs (Lou Fuss and Karen Lynch) had more shots up.
Congratulations Claire and Eileen for being Masters Pairs runners-up for 2010.
