FORMER Ceduna horseman Scott Trenowden celebrated the biggest win of his short training career when Staralan won a $55,000 feature at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
The win was the first in Melbourne for the 36-year-old son of long time leading Ceduna horse trainer Trevor "Bushy" Trenowden.
Staralan, purchased by Trenowden Jnr for $8,000 after winning a maiden at Port Augusta, is raced by a group of owners - largely based in Roxby Downs.
"He's been a revelation for the stable," Trenowden said. "And this win is a dream come true."
"I'm in my third year of training and this is the first horse I've ever brought to Melbourne and for him to win after running second here the other day is fantastic."
Staralan was ridden to victory on Friday night by Black Caviar's regular rider Luke Nolen.
"The horse did a great job with the big weight - he had a strong sprint at the finish," Nolen said.
"The boys will have plenty of fun with him. He has a good overall record and I'm sure there will be plenty more cheques with him."
Trenowden toasted the win with a lemon squash with cousin, Melbourne based Magic Millions media manager Greg Irvine, in the winner's room - happily watching replays of the big win.
Staralan was floated back to Oakbank overnight on Friday by his tired, but every excited trainer and he will now be set for the Oakbank Easter Carnival.
Trenowden currently has 12 horses in work at Oakbank including his multiple Adelaide winner Flying Merkel.
