The Southern Cross Television Ceduna races has been described as a fantastic success by Ceduna Racing Club organisers, with what could be the largest crowd ever seen at a Ceduna race day.
The Julie Brandford trained horse Time to Chat won the inaugural Ceduna Waters Christmas Handicap feature race.
Ceduna Racing Club committee member Jodie Wilkins said the club was very pleased with how the day panned out.
“This would have to be close to one of the biggest crowds ever seen at a Ceduna race day, and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves so much,” she said.
Australian racing icon John Letts was a hit with the crowd as the race day master of ceremonies, and as he signed off for the day he congratulated the club on a fantastic race day and looked forward to coming back again for the Cup on Saturday, January 16.
Winner of the Ceduna Pharmacy ladies and men’s fashions were Alicia McWaters and Ty Hoffricter.
Father Christmas made a high profile entry after the first race, being chauffeured to the track in a specialised golf buggy and handed out bags of lollies to the kids.
Ceduna Racing Club marquee coordinator Samantha Wilkins was also delighted with the fact that the Christmas marquees had sold out, and how much people in the marquees enjoyed themselves.
“We had a lot of feedback about how much people enjoyed themselves and how good the platters were, which is a real credit to Elaine Kerridge and the Ceduna Pony Club,” she said.
The Ceduna Racing Club is now looking forward to the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Cup races on Saturday, January 16, with special guest Mark Ricciuto hosting Roo’s Punters Club.
“We are very happy with how the Christmas Race Day turned out, and now we can all look forward to the Ceduna Cup races, particularly with the Roo coming over and Lettsy keeping him on his toes,” club president Bruce Zippel said.
