Hot air blows on windy day

Hot air blows on windy day

28 May, 2009 04:00 AM
Twenty-two golfers competed in the Streaky Bay Golf Club men’s Patron’s Day stableford competition in what appeared to be excellent conditions.

At the end of the day reports came in claiming that there were strange and indiscriminate 30 second squalls that apparently played havoc on some player’s games throughout the day.

Jeff Williams and Joe Day are the club’s distinguished patrons; this year Jeff generously proved the prizes for day’s competition.

The winner of the day was J Habel on 43 points, second was R Billing on 42 points and third was D Gazzola, all who will come under scrutiny of the handicapper after this week after their excellent rounds.

Novelty winners for the day:

Nearest the pin A grade: B Huntley.

Nearest the pin third shot A grade: J Habel, B grade: H Verstappen, C grade: L Mann.

Best birdies: A grade: J Habel, C grade: L Mann.

A number of fines were imposed at the end of the day; a distinguished A grader claims he was blown away by a squall on a tee off block resulting in very short drive, another player produced a lovely lay up shot next to a scrape but unfortunately got confused and was playing the wrong hole, a number of players had “snake” three putts and a low handicapping A grader was reported for putter abuse – exclaiming in protest that it wasn’t thrown as far as the week before!

The Streaky Bay lady golfers played the annual Hospital Day last Wednesday.

The winner for the 18 hole competition was Y Reed with 37 stableford points and the runner-up was C Horseman with 35 points.

The winner for the D grade was D Sutherland with an amazing 25 points.

D Sutherland also broke her handicap by three strokes.

J Williams presented the trophies and also accepted a cheque on behalf of the hospital for the money raised on the day.

It was also the first round of the Monthly Medal which was won by Y Reed.

It was also good to see an increase of numbers in the D grade competition.

All new players are welcome to come along and have a good day.
