Graham Woods was a recent recipient of an SANFL Key Volunteers Award for the Eyre Peninsula region for his efforts in establishing the Far West Football League Junior Football Academy.
The inaugural intake of the academy has been deemed a success by all within the Far West Football League and general community for the opportunities provided to the players involved for self improvement and self confidence, understanding of community and club responsibilities and the promotion of healthy living.
The long term goal for Mr Woods and all involved with the academy is to see players improve their own skills in Australian football but also become mentors within their own clubs and the league to the next generation.
The “Key Volunteer Award” also recognized Mr Woods’s contribution to the promotion of junior football in his role of junior development officer for the Far West Football League and representative of the Western Zone Junior Advisory Council.
Over the past five years, Mr Woods has been heavily involved in organising the Far West Football League Port Adelaide Magpies Cup and Kinlough Cup teams either as a coach, selector, team manager or runner.
He has coordinated trainings leading up to the carnivals and has spent many hours travelling to not only attend the carnivals but to also attend junior delegate meetings across the Western Zone.
Mr Woods has been of great assistance to the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club in this time attending Country Academy sessions with players, helping with talent identification and assisting with the organisation of development camps.
In 2009 Graham also completed his Level 2 Coach Accreditation and was recently presented with his Level 2 certificate at the SANFL Coach Awards Dinner held at AAMI Stadium.
