First semi is Hawks vs Districts

Matches played on Saturday, August 15 at Wirrulla, Minnipa, Wudinna.

A grade: Elliston defeated Western Districts 45-43.

This match started with tight defence and contests in the first part of the quarter. Some good defence by Western Districts saw them take the lead 16 – 11 at quarter time.

The second quarter saw a few errors creep into the game with Elliston able to capitalise and close the gap 24 -26 at half time.

The third quarter was fought out with lots of body contact and no one giving up the ball easily. Some great turnovers by Western Districts defence line and great moving in the circle by Jacoba Tomney and Tansy O’Brien helped capitalise with goals from the defence’s hard work, to extend their lead 38 – 33 at the end of the quarter.

The last quarter was set to be hard and fast with Elliston making some positional changes to help with their come back. Western Districts fought hard to keep in front, however a few missed opportunities by districts let Elliston close the gap. Elliston goalies were shooting exceptionally well and didn’t give away many opportunities and were able to close the gap. The match continued to be well fought out down the court and Elliston’s accuracy under the ring saw them take out the match defeating Districts 45 – 43.

Wirrulla defeated Central Eyre 51-27.

A hard fought game played in very hot conditions with both teams agreeing to break for a drink during each quarter. Teams were evenly matched. Wirrulla capitalized on turnovers provided by their ever reliable defences Renae and Louise. Wirrulla led all game winning by 24 goals.

Best players: Central Eyre: Janelle Grocke, Wirrulla, Renae Olsen.

Wudinna United defeated West Coast Hawks 55-35.

It was a warm day for playing netball with drinks breaks held half way through each quarter in all grades.

Wudinna came out firing from the first whistle, scoring the first few goals. There was tight defence down the court and both teams had to work hard. Wudinna led 11-7 at quarter time. The second quarter was much the same, with the Hawks girls struggling to score with tight defence by Karen Petty and Azika Klante. Wudinna led by 9 at half time, 26-17. Both teams made changes at half time. Wudinna kept the pressure up and went out to a 15 goal lead about halfway through the third quarter, but Hawks got some good turnovers and shot accurately close the gap, which was 10 goals at three quarter time. Both teams were getting tired and more mistakes crept into the game in the last quarter, but Wudinna shot accurately and extended their lead, to win by 20.

Auction Award went to Jade Klante, Meal Voucher to Mandy DuBois.

B grade: Elliston defeated Western Districts 62-21.

The match started out with Elliston taking control right from the outset, with there defence making it very hard for Districts goalies to get a clean shot at goal. Western Districts fought hard in the defence with Rachel Brands and Nicole Brands playing well to try to contain the Elliston goalies. After making some positional changes Districts lifted and put the pressure on Elliston, with the District goalies Kyre Wallace and Stacey Lee working really hard to get possession. However Elliston work rate increased and with fantastic work by the Elliston goalies and feeding in to the circle they took out a convincing win.

Best Players Elliston: Karen Paul; Districts: Stacey Lee.

Central Eyre defeated Wirrulla 53-26.

In warm conditions Central Eyre scored first with Wirrulla following goal for goal. With play going back and forth Central Eyre settled to lead at quarter time 12-6. In the second Central Eyre started well with strong defence by both teams. Goals were hard to come by with good passages of play from Central Eyre they extended their lead. Changes were made by Wirrulla at both ends in the third but that couldnt stop the quick play through the mid court into the goalies who were shooting well. With stronger defence by both ends mid court. Player disposal into the goalies were accurate. Play by both teams was even throughout the court. Central Eyre maintaining their lead to win 53-26.

Wudinna United defeated West Coast Hawks 52-38.

Wudinna began the game with good drive and determination, working hard to keep their goalies in close. Hawks struggled to score with Wudinna’s tight defence, and Wudinna had a 15-4 lead at quarter time. Hawks came out tougher in the second, and played a more settled game. However Wudinna also continued strongly, with accurate shooting and good movement down the court. They led 28-17 at half tine. Hawks outscored Wudinna in the third quarter, with their defenders increasing the pressure and making it harder to get the ball in to the goalies. Wudinna led 36-28 at three quarter time. The final quarter Wudinna came back determined and played more their style of netball, and went on to win by 14.

Auction Award went to Tanya DuBois, Meal Voucher went to Rikeeli Klante.

C grade: Elliston defeated Western Districts 40-32.

A very strong steady game played by both teams. Districts unforced errors let them down throughout the game allowing Elliston to capitalise on them and forge ahead to lead at the end of each quarter. A close last quarter made the game a good match to watch for spectators but Elliston had the upper hand all game and were able to take out the win.

Best Players: Elliston: Georgina Wilson; Districts : Amanda Cook.

Wudinna United defeated West Coast Hawks 45-41.

The first quarter was close with both teams working hard. Wudinna led 12-11 at quarter time. They came out stronger in the second, with good movement down the court and accurate shooting to lead 28-21 at half time. Both teams made changes and the third quarter was more even, with good pressure down the court. Wudinna held on to a 38-32 lead. Hawks came out firing in the last quarter, with more mistakes in Wudinna’s game. However they held on to win by 4 goals.

Western Districts defeated Elliston 39-17.

Play started out very even in the first quarter with districts goalies being more accurate under the ring giving them a 5 goal lead going in to quarter time. The second quarter saw Elliston make many mistake and Districts took advantage of this, leading Elliston 18 – 8 at half time. The second half saw Districts using their experience to there advantage and took out a convincing win 39 – 17.

No best player named.

Wudinna United defeated West Coast Hawks.

This was a good match with Wudinna starting strongly to lead 16-5 at quarter time. Hawks outscored them in the second, with good pressure down the court. Wudinna started the last half strongly, and kept the pressure up to win by 13.

15 and under: Wudinna defeated West Coast Hawks.

Goals were hard to come by in the first quarter, with Wudinna leading 6-4 at quarter time. Both teams defended well and made it hard to score. Wudinna kept Hawks to 2 goals in the second quarter, and pushed their lead out to 14-6 at half time. Both teams made changes at each break. Hawks played better in the third quarter and outscored Wudinna, but they came out stronger in the last quarter and won by 13.

13 and under: Elliston defeated Western Districts 43-19.

In very warm conditions the under 13 had a very even line up between both teams, with every possession tightly and evenly contested. Elliston goalies shot well to give them a 3 goal lead over Western Districts at quarter time. Districts made positional changes to rotate players but Elliston began to increase there lead, however the Western District girls fought really hard and made some great intercepts and had a very even second and third quarter – with home ground support Districts lifted also and played some great netball. However a few unforced errors started to creep into the game in the warm conditions and Elliston goalies were shooting very well, and were able to take out a good win, the score line does not depict how evenly matched these two sides were on the day. Best players not supplied.

Wudinna defeated West Coast Hawks.

The first quarter was even, eight goals each. Both teams worked hard for every ball. Wudinna put the pressure on in the second quarter and had a 19-13 lead at half time. Both teams made changes each quarter break. Wudinna’s goalies were playing well and Wudinna led 33-18 at three quarter time. Hawks girls tried hard but Wudinna went on to win by 21 goals.
