Match played on Saturday, November 28 at Thevenard.
Thevenard 6/211 defeated Streaky Bay 10/142.
Match played on Saturday, November 28 at Smoky Bay.
In windy, cold and wet conditions an enthralling battle took place as Smoky Bay played host to Ceduna in the Far West Cricket Association last Saturday.
Smoky skipper “Pigeon Collins” won the toss and elected to bat.
The Ceduna boys got off to a good start getting two quick wickets and Smoky were 2/14 in the 5th over.
Thiselton and Pearce steadied the innings but were then both dismissed with the score on 39 and 42.
L.Wright was the pick of the Smoky batters with a very well compiled 53 runs, which included 7 fours and held his side in the game. He was dismissed in the 45th over and Smoky Bay was 8/139.
The young tail Enders and “Bumma” pushed the score to 10/149 giving Ceduna a healthy target to chase.
Cox was the stand out bowler for Ceduna taking 6/28 off his 10 overs and was well supported by Keanelly who took 2/24 also off his 10 overs.
Ceduna needed to score at 3 runs per over to win the game and Smoky knew they had to bowl well to win.
Smoky got off to a great start by getting two early wickets leaving Ceduna at 2/22 in the 12th over.
Williams and Kloeden then combined for a 58 run partnership getting the score to 80 at the drinks break.
In step captain Collins whose first ball after drinks bowled Kloeden around his legs with a huge swinging delivery, he then enticed Williams two overs later and a near collision saw Bumma take a great catch.
Ceduna were 4/88 and Smoky had a sniff.
Ceduna captain Miller and Johns put on 29 getting the score to 5/117 with the fall of Millers wicket.
With Cedunas score on 132 in the 44th over, captain Collins threw the ball to Hissey and after a devastating spell claiming 4/9 in 17 balls Ceduna had slipped to 9/143 in the 48th over and had lost their last 4 wickets for 11 runs thanks to the Hissey onslaught.
With Hissey on fire the Ceduna boys were glad to see him bowled out.
Big Wes strode to the crease with a steely look in his eye, knowing that 7 runs would win the game.
With the penultimate going for 3 runs Ceduna needed four runs off the last over to snatch the game.
With the tension building Irvine confidently blocked the first ball of the last over then the next ball let fly with a devastating blow over mid wicket, one bounce into the fence and Ceduna had got out of jail and snuck in for a memorable win with just four balls and one wicket to spare.
Smokys pick of the bowlers were Hissey who took 4/19 off ten overs and very nearly got Smoky home, and Thiselton who took two early wickets and finished with figures of 2/23 off his 10 overs.
This week is the second Henderson Shield game for Far West as they host Port Lincoln and after winning their first game against Tumby Bay another win here could secure them a place in the final.
