Trial for murder accused

22 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
William James Lawrie, from Ceduna, and Ashley Michael Warren, from Port Pirie, will appear before Port Augusta Supreme Court in March on trial for the murder of Dallas Cooper almost exactly a year ago.

Mr Cooper’s body was found on Decres Bay Road on October 26 last year next to his burnt-out Daihatsu Charade.

The two accused have been charged with murder and arson.

The Elizabeth Magistrates Court heard there is DNA evidence linking Warren to the killing and that witnesses saw both men loading a body into a car, the ABC reported.

Lawrie tried to have his charge downgraded, arguing that the evidence from witnesses does not directly link him.

But Magistrate Fred Field found both men had a case to answer. They pleaded not guilty.

In an unrelated case, Aaron Pompey, who has been charged with four counts of death by dangerous driving, will appear in the Ceduna Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 28.

Pompey was allegedly the driver of a car in which Toby Weetra, 24, from Ceduna, Joshua Davey, 17, from Kilburn and cousins Dean Schultz and Aaron Schultz from Western Australia were killed on May 22 this year.
