Services combine to rescue rider in distress

05 Nov, 2010 10:25 AM
Ceduna Emergency Service teams from SA Ambulance, SA Police and the SES were called out at 5.45pm, Tuesday, October 26 to attend a motorcycle crash on Googs Track - 37km north of Googs Lake.

The motorcycle rider had activated an emergency beacon which alerted authorities that he was in difficulty.

An AUSSAR aircraft was also despatched from Perth to drop supplies if required, and Chinta Air - with air observer Robbie Sleep aboard - located the crash and passed valuable information to the ground crews heading towards the scene.

A rescue helicopter was also on stand-by at Whyalla should a retrieval be necessary.

Fortunately the rider had only sustained a minor injury to a knee - which unfortunately had prevented him from further riding or walking.

The rider was taken to Ceduna Hospital for treatment.

The retrieval operation was finished at 1.30am Wednesday morning.

Officers involved were Paul Coombe, Nicole Kaenhe and Cathy Mutlow (SA Ambulance), Josh O’Dwyer and Jenny Scott (SA Police) and Peter Codrington and Rod Thomas (SES).
