Mining contract goes to Adelaide company

18 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
Iluka Resources has recently appointed the mining contract for the Jacinth-Ambrosia operations to Adelaide based company Exact Mining Services (EMS).

EMS have experience in both the mining and civil industries, currently operating at a number of locations across Australia, including BHP’s Olympic Dam operations.

Representatives from EMS undertook a familiarisation tour of the J-A site last week and will undergo Iluka’s environment, health and safety inductions this week.

Within the near future, EMS will commence the clearing of J-A’s initial tailings storage facility as well as start work on the clearing required for the starter pit and future mining locations.

During the peak of activity on site, EMS will utilise up to 12 pieces of mobile equipment to meet the earth moving requirements of the operation.

“We’re looking forward to having EMS work as a part of our J-A

team,” Iluka’s operations manager Andrew Whatham said.

“Pleasingly, they have demonstrated throughout their existing Australian operations

that they are committed to local employment.”

EMS look to employ approximately 30 staff at J-A.

The roles will range from mobile equipment operators to safety, administration and management positions.

Other support roles for EMS will exist from their Adelaide office.

EMS chief executive officer Greg Rhodes was confident in the future success of the partnership.

“EMS are pleased to further expand our services to the mineral sands industry with the awarding of the mining services contract with Iluka,” Mr Rhodes said.

“The opportunity to work with Iluka on this world class project also creates new employment opportunities in the mining industry for people who come from this region.”

Iluka are still to announce the awarding of the contract for heavy mineral concentrate haulage from J-A to Port Thevenard as well as the camp services and air charter contracts.
