Hard work recognised

Streaky Bay’s Josiah Schmucker and his parents Caroline and Jeff were invited to attend government house in Adelaide on Tuesday, February 9.

The invitation was made for the presentation of a certificate of merit from the South Australian Certificate of Education Board of SA in recognition of Josiah’s outstanding achievements in a stage two accredited subject.

The subject in which he excelled to the highest level in the state was ‘Lifestyle and The Community’.

The award was presented by His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce ASC CSC RANR, Governor of South Australia.

Josiah was one of seven students from Eyre Peninsula and one of 725 in the state to reach this high achievement and was a proud and honoured recipient of the award.

The result was hard earned, as Josiah spent valuable school time in 2009 pursuing surfing commitments with his major sponsor Billabong, and he was involved in the Fantastic Noodles big wave competition held at Streaky Bay.

Josiah returned from Hawaii via Sydney on the morning of the awards after spending a month in the tropical surfing paradise.

He spent time on the north shore of Oahu at Billabong House and on the famed west coast of Maui surfing the exciting and awesome waves of Honolua Bay.

His time there was spent training and surfing with some of the worlds most famous wave riders.

Congratulations to Josiah for demonstrating such a level of commitment to his education while also pursuing his dreams of becoming a big wave superstar.
